After prosecci and aperitvi we enjoyed a sumptuous buffet dinner that included pastas, salmon, lamb, veal - something for every taste. All complimented by selected wines or for those who wished to continue in the festive spirit prosecco.
Rome always holds many surprises, even that of an unannounced transit strike, and it holds many treasures that make it all worthwhile. On this special evening our members and guests left the chaos behind and found themselves entering the candlelit historic gardens of Palazzo Brancaccio, passing through lush vegetation and the calming waters of fountains nestled along the walkway. The Christmas tree within warmed us with thoughts of holidays past and set the tone for the joyous atmosphere of the evening to come. Seasonal music in the background sounded a welcoming note and encouraged us to mingle, drink and eat; spending time with new friends and old in a holiday and festive spirit.
An attentive audience heard President Diana Szyszka-Pompei speak about Associazone Nazionale Donne Operate al Seno (ANDOS).
We also had the opportunity to support one of our charities ANDOS* and to learn a bit about the Breast Health Program. We will be talking more about this challenging and important cause in the next few weeks.
The dolci buffet - crepes Suzette, sorbetto, torte, fruit - was a firm favorite and the evening was caped by coffee, grappa and amaro. A great conclusion to a great evening.
The evening was truly a "gala" one and allowed us to celebrate the joyous spirit of the holidays in an oasis within Rome. For a brief few hours it became a little corner of Canada as we feted the holidays in our home away from home.
We'll be posting more photos of this wonderful evening shortly.
*Currently the ANDOS website is available only in Italian however an English version is in preparation.
