Day trip to Villa Adriana, CCR & AICR Joint Events – Saturday, October 22, 2011

The Canadian Club of Rome is extending a warm welcome and its members’ price to American International Club of Rome (AICR) members participating in our Villa Adriana guided tour on Saturday, 22 October, while the AICR is reciprocating by inviting CCR members to join its members for a country lunch at a lovely local villa, also at the same very low price enjoyed by AICR members.

Here’s a recap of the two events:

Hadrian's Villa
Villa Adriana - CCR Guided Tour/Excursion

At a comfortable distance from bustling Rome, Emperor Hadrian built a wonderful residence for himself. 1800 years later, its remains, still partly unexcavated, form a splendid archaeological site which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Including sumptuous baths, gardens, banqueting halls, an amphitheater, and possibly a tomb for his dead lover, the deified slave Antinuous, and recreations of famous sites the Emperor had visited in Greece and Egypt, the Villa sheds some light on the life of one of Rome's most famous and most secretive of Emperors.

Buffet lunch with local products at Villa del Senatore - AICR

AICR member Anna Maria Nardi will be welcoming AICR and CCR members to her country villa, Villa del Senatore, in the municipality of Villa Adriana, for a selection of local delicacies. Anna Maria is offering a buffet lunch at an unbeatable price for AICR & CCR members.
Villa del Senatore gardens

Villa del Senatore is built on the site of the house of one of Hadrian’s senators, on the hill where Emperor Hadrian had his summer court in 125 A.D. It is a magical place where one can feel the atmosphere of the centuries; touch invaluable archeological pieces from the period found in the grounds and imagine how it is to live in an Italian style country house. The garden is divided in two. On one side, you will find archeological pieces, while on the other side you have access to a Japanese garden which is exclusively designed by Japanese architect Sachimine Masui, a Japanese architect.

Members and friends will be treated to an organic, exquisite and unique lunch. Products on our lunch menu are cultivated on the property – a total of 4 hectares. The cheese is from the sheep that graze on the property!
