Via Appia Antica - Historic Walk

Saturday (January 16) turned out to be one of the few days this past week that was sunny, if a bit crisp, and the perfect day for a walk along the Via Appia Antica. With our wonderful guide Olivia Ercoli 24 CCR members and friends explored the great Roman road from the Circus of Maxentius to the Capo di Bove.
Guide extraordinaire Olivia Ercoli led us through the creation, destruction, restoration cycle that has been the fate of this great road, fortunately now preserved by its status as a World Heritage Site.

Though we did not make it as far as our intended destination of the Villa of the Quintilii the lure and knowledge that there are many other wonders ahead had most of the participants planning to come back and visit this World Heritage site again.

Our next walk is scheduled for February 7 when Olivia will guide us through the Port of Trajan - a site often overlooked by visitors. Please click here for details.
