A fun potluck night together, looking at
excerpts from one of the greatest films, rightly deserving to be among those which
helped shape Italian identity between 1942 and 1978. "I Soliti Ignoti" received an Oscar (1959) and spawned a remake in English titled "Big Deal on Madonna Street." This highly acclaimed film by director Mario Monicelli starred some the
greatest Italian actors of the time and is still considered a masterpiece of
its kind, uncannily immersed in its own period and yet showing a tragic and
ironic side which transcends its historical context. This Italian film with English subtitles will be
shown in excerpts, with a break for refreshments.
