Gallery Aperitivo & Talk - April 7, 2022

The long history of classic Italian art history is renowned, but how much do you know about contemporary art in Italy? Francesco Zero will welcome us into his private art gallery for drinks and a talk on art movements from the post-WWII period to the present. He will address the fundamental question of "What is art?" in viewers' perceptions and reactions. Along with co-owner Pino Purificato, Francesco will also relate the works of other Italian figurative artists to those of Pino's father, Domenico Purificato, who was a prominent figure in Italian neorealist painting and film.

This talk will be in Italian, with consecutive translation into English or French as needed. Light refreshments will be served.

When: Thursday, April 7, 2022
Time: 6-8 p.m.
Where: Galleria Purificato Zero, Via Bisagno 11 (Piazza Istria/Corso Trieste metro)
Cost: Free.
RSVP to canadarome@gmail.com ATTN Marielle by noon on the 6th of April. Green Passes/Proof of vaccination will be checked and COVID-19 containment measures will be respected.

CCR Remote Lectures: Fit for a Queen - January 12, 2021

Queen Elizabeth II is the lucky owner of a fantastic collection of 7,000 paintings. As a result of necessary renovations to the state rooms of Buckingham Palace, 65 first-rate masterpieces went on show for the first time in a gallery exhibition, but few people got to see them because of COVID restrictions. Using our CCR super-powers, we will focus on a few of these breathtaking treasures. Join us as we (figuratively) transport ourselves into the Queen’s realm and tiptoe through a unique collection, including famous Flemish, French, and Italian artists and savour some really outstanding works of art.

When: Tuesday, January 12, 2021
Time: 6 p.m. (lecture duration is approx. 75 minutes)
Meeting Place: Your Place!
Cost: €10 for members and €15 for non-members.
RSVP: canadarome@gmail.com ATTN Joe by Saturday, January 9, 2021. You are financially responsible for your reservation.

CCR Walks: the Sancta Sanctorum - March 17, 2012

The Sancta Sanctorum - or "holy of holies" - is a Papal chapel only open through special appointment. Holding many hallowed and venerated relics, its most important features, however, are its wonderful mosaics and frescoes, rarely seen in their entirety by pilgirms flocking to St. John Lateran. Their unique style and iconography helps us reconstruct the early days of 13th century humanism in Rome.

When: Saturday, March 17, 2012
Time: 10 a.m.
Where: meet in Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano, in front of the main entrance to the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano.
Cost: Special offer to be announced; normal pricing €10 CCR members, €15 non-members
RSVP: by March 12, 2012
