CCR House Concert: Crozman & Milatz - February 20, 2024

We have the unique opportunity to meet and enjoy the art of two young Canadian classical musicians in the intimate setting of a private residence during their tour of Italy. It goes without saying that spots are strictly limited for this home concert, reminiscent of the private salons of the past. Refreshments will be provided; CCR members have priority.

Named “Canada’s next big cello star” by CBC Music, Canadian cellist Cameron Crozman leads an active performing career as a soloist and chamber musician in Canada, the USA, and Europe. Winner of the 2021 Canada Council for the Arts Virginia Parker Prize, Cameron was CBC/Radio-Canada’s 2019 Classical Revelation artist and a laureate of the Paris Conservatoire and Gautier Capuçon’s Classe d’Excellence at the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris. He plays on a c. 1750 cello by Gennaro Gagliano, generously on loan from the Canada Council for the Arts Instrument Bank.

Meagan Milatz is “a remarkable pianist with a seemingly limitless palette of expression” (Le Devoir). An accomplished soloist and chamber musician, she has appeared with orchestras across Canada and performs regularly with top international musicians such as Stefan Dohr, Matt Haimovitz, Øystein Baadsvik, Avi Avital, Cho Liang Lin, and Andrew Wan, and she has performed internationally in Ireland, France, Scotland, Spain, and the USA.

Thanksgiving Lunch - October 8, 2023

Thanksgiving Day is the second Monday in October in Canada but to welcome more people here in Rome, we'll celebrate with our traditional lunch on Sunday the 8th of October. Those who attended last year know what huge delicious plates with all the "fixings" that this restaurant will prepare just for us.

Book soon, as we need to give the restaurant time to order the right size turkey. As many of you know, this is a very special order here in Italy!

Special Event: Meet the Author Matthew Kneale - October 6, 2018

It isn't often that a history book garners as much buzz as "Rome: A History in Seven Sackings" by Matthew Kneale. The CCR Book Club has made special arrangements for the author to meet with us to talk about the making of his book. Matthew lives in Rome and expresses his love of this city in a unique story-telling style that is warm, humorous, and engaging. This event will take place in a historic location near Piazza Venezia that is not normally open to the public.

For those of you who would like to read the book, it is available on Amazon. Although it's written in a very entertaining fashion, it's quite long; it's the history of Rome, after all, so start reading soon! All Canadian Club of Rome members and their guests are welcome to attend. Space will be limited and reservations will be required.

When: Saturday, October 6, 2018
Time: Arrive by 1:50 p.m.; a brief tour of the monastery will start at 2 p.m. sharp, followed by Matthew Kneale's talk.
Where: Monastery of Santi XII Apostoli (near Piazza Venezia); details on the exact location will be sent to confirmed participants.
Potluck: Please bring sweets for 6-10 people (finger food, no kitchen preparation or heating) and/or chilled Prosecco to share.
Cost: Free; however, to thank the Franciscans for the use of their monastery, each individual is asked to contribute to their food bank by bringing canned goods, such as tuna, mackerel, salmon, meat.

Jazz Love: The Canadian Songbook - May 3, 2018

Another great opportunity to take in Canadian culture right here in Rome.

Two of Canada's most celebrated and original jazz artists are making their debut together at the Rome Auditorium on May 3rd, as part of the Auditorium's "Jazz Love" series. Collectively, singer/pianist Elizabeth Shepherd and guitarist Michael Occhipinti have earned 12 JUNO Award nominations, and they have begun work on their first joint album celebrating the vibrant music that came out of Toronto’s Yonge Street in the 1960s. Both have been praised by critics for their imaginative original music and interpretations of popular songs, and for their Rome show they’ll be exploring the Canadian Songbook.

But the CCR also has the very special opportunity to welcome a limited number of people to meet Elizabeth and Michael at a pre-show, backstage artist talk! This is your chance to learn more about these performers' creative process and ask questions about both their music and careers. If you're a musician yourself, they'll be happy to give tips and share stories.

Elizabeth and Michael love chocolate cake almost as much as they love jazz!
