Thanksgiving Lunch - October 8, 2023

Thanksgiving Day is the second Monday in October in Canada but to welcome more people here in Rome, we'll celebrate with our traditional lunch on Sunday the 8th of October. Those who attended last year know what huge delicious plates with all the "fixings" that this restaurant will prepare just for us.

Book soon, as we need to give the restaurant time to order the right size turkey. As many of you know, this is a very special order here in Italy!

Thanksgiving Luncheon - October 11, 2020

Cancelled due to weather and anti-COVID restrictions.

This year we can't have our traditional Thanksgiving lunch at a restaurant, due to the need for physical distancing, but Canada's Ambassador to the Holy See, Isabelle Savard, has come to the rescue by offering the beautiful gardens of her Official Residence! 

Fine catering and buffet service will be provided by our favourite Canadian caterer, Sylvie of AYB, while guests can spread out in the open areas to eat and chat.

This year we're excited to try a new venue for our traditional Thanksgiving lunch. Run by a by an American wife and an Italian husband and their family, this cozy, classic Roman restaurant in Trastevere has added some great North American offerings. Just check out the menu here below!

As usual, though the national holiday in Canada is on a Monday, we're going to have our big meal at lunchtime the day before so we have plenty of time to relax with family and friends, old and new.

Canadian Thanksgiving Lunch - October 13, 2013

Initially brought to Canada as a European-style harvest festival between the 17th and 18th centuries, the exact date of this celebration varied from one year to the next until the twentieth century, when the second Monday in October was eventually chosen as Thanksgiving Day in Canada.

Thanksgiving Lunch - October 4, 2009

The Canadian Thanksgiving Lunch in Formello was another enormous success with many unexpected reservations made at the last minute, so much so, that we had to double everything and expand our table. The Capitan Paff restaurant and it’s owners out did themselves…. the food was excellent and very Canadian, we felt like we were back home in a beautiful setting by the lake with wild ducks and geese. We also had the surprise of live music with a wonderful singer who delighted us throughout our luncheon with wonderful songs. The wine and after lunch drinks in this bucolic setting made for a perfect day of Thanksgiving.
