Book Launch and Author Meeting - May 26, 2006

We are pleased to present a very special literary event. Join us for the Rome launch of "La Poesia di Carol Shields," a bilingual English/Italian collection of the poetry of the award-winning, late Canadian writer Carol Shields. Translated and curated by Nella Cotrupi, the collection brings a major Canadian voice to Italy. “These translations are a bridge between an extraordinary writer and a linguistic community that has not yet had full access to her most distilled voice.” The collection is published by I Quaderni del Bardo Edizioni di Stefano Donno.

Also presenting at the same event will be the Canadian-Italian writer Genni Gunn, who will discuss her latest book "The Cipher," a historical novel of secrets and lies, spies and lovers, which takes place during the Second World War.

Speakers will include the author/editor Nella Cotrupi, writer Genni Gunn, and publisher Stefano Donno.

Book Presentation: Eric Reguly - December 11, 2025

Eric Reguly, European bureau chief for The Globe and Mail, will present his book on the life and work of his father, renowned war correspondent and investigative journalist Robert Reguly, and the impact his career had on their relationship. The senior Reguly reported on the Vietnam War from very close range and was deeply affected by the experience. Hard-hitting political coverage and investigations throughout his career also won him accolades for decades.

Eric Reguly, who is a long-time resident of Rome, was born in Vancouver and grew up in Toronto, Washington, D.C., and Italy. "Ghosts of War: Chasing My Father's Legend Through Vietnam" tells the story of father and son, both united and divided by journalism. Copies of this memoir will be available for purchase and signature. Eric will also tell us briefly about his most recent book on Gaza.

This talk and Q&A will be moderated by CCR friend Jeannie Marshall, another Canadian who has reported for numerous Canadian and international newspapers and sites.

Book Launch: Ron Burnett - November 1, 2025

Canadian author Ron Burnett will be launching his new book edition at a reception here in Rome. He will speak to us (in English) about "Heinz Inlander, Il Pittore Perduto: Un memoriale immaginario" (Davide Ghaleb Editore, 2025), an imaginative retelling of the story of Heinz/Henry Inlander.

Ron Burnett is President Emeritus of Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver. Among other awards, he holds the Order of France/Chevalier de l’ordre des arts et des lettres. He is the author of over 150 essays and articles in books and journals  around the world. He was the editor-in-chief and founder of Ciné-Tracts Magazine, a film and cultural studies journal that was founded in 1976 and produced seventeen issues. Burnett is also a photographer, videomaker and  filmmaker.

Book Presentation: Jeannie Marshall - October 5, 2023

Fellow Canadian and longtime Rome resident Jeannie Marshall will present to members and friends of the CCR her personal exploration of what it means to look at art in her book "All Things Move: Learning to Look in the Sistine Chapel." The Washington Post review describes it as "compact and elegantly voiced." It is a book that starts in the Sistine Chapel with Michelangelo’s frescoes and moves out and onto the streets of Rome, entwining personal history with the history of the last half millennium, bringing us back to the present moment where we can stand in the room and ask what this great piece of Western art means to us in the twenty-first century.

Born and raised in Toronto, Jeannie has lived in many global cities and has worked as a reporter for numerous Canadian and international newspapers and sites. She moved to Rome in 2002.

Book Presentation: Adele Weder - May 11, 2023

Adele Weder is the author of a recent book about renowned Vancouver architect Ron Thom, who designed, among many other works, Massey College and Trent University. In addition to attending the architecture Bienniale in Venice, Adele will visit various cities in Italy. We will have the pleasure of welcoming her to present her book, "Ron Thom, Architect: The Life of a Creative Modernist," exclusively to us in Rome.
