Historical Aperitivo: Garibaldi’s Staten Island Sojourn - June 18, 2024

In 1851, having barely escaped Italy with his life, Giuseppe Garibaldi moved into the humble home of Antonio Meucci on Staten Island, in New York City. What does this episode on the periphery of the Risorgimento tell us about this complex and larger than life historical figure carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders? Historian Christine Contrada, who described the ominous death of Julius Cesar on the Ides of March for us, is returning to give a brief explanation of Garibaldi's connections to Rome and the historic Testaccio district.

Party Like It's the Ides of March Aperitivo - March 14, 2024

Hac nocte pars amet est similis XCIX like "Senator Prince" used to sing! The theme of this aperitivo will be ancient Rome around the Ides of March. Feel free to don your most authentic or most kitschy ancient garb as we head for the ancient senate.

Who exactly stabbed Julius Caesar and why? We'll also have historian Christine Contrada at hand to give us insights into his fate, since we'll be at a venue precisely over the site of his assassination -- luckily one day before the ominous event! So join us for the big reveal, 2000 years after the fact.

We're back with our aperitivo get-togethers, and now that it's gotten hotter, we'll head to a terrace top to cool off in the early evening! This location near Saint Paul's Basilica has had great reviews thanks to the quality of their drinks and food options, like the "super piattone per 2" (platter of appetizers for 2) and the "piattone vegetariano" (vegetarian platter for 1). Brazilian Vibes Lunch Aperitivo - March 5, 2022

Let's resume our ethnic aperitivo get-togethers with an outdoor lunchtime date, now that conditions are stabilizing and spring is approaching! We'll channel the sunny vibes at a colourful Brazilian-style boteco (tavern) for informal drinks and snacks and finally get a much needed chance to meet outdoors and face-to-face. Come early for a quick drink and savoury appetizer or stay on for lunch.

The eatery also has spacious rooms with tropical décor if the weather doesn't cooperate and we need to retreat indoors!

Casual Closing Cheer & Chow! - June 17, 2021

What an unprecedented year and club season we've had. Though we're happy we're starting to see light at the end of the pandemic tunnel, we still can't pull off one of our traditional season closing parties just yet. But we don't want to pass up the chance for an end-of-season Salute! toast before the summer break.

In keeping with this exceptional year, we're going to meet informally at a spot in an iconic location that never used to be frequented by Roman residents. On the spectacular and super-spacious Piazza Navona, in 2020 a new generation transformed "Camillo" from being one of the typical tourist traps plaguing the square into a casual but quality eatery catering to locals. It features normal drink prices and small plates combining local Roman fare and international fusion elements, as well as an art installation.

Keeping this send-off casual and respecting current risk reduction measures, we'd like to invite each individual or party to book their own table (all seating is outdoors, under umbrellas or not, right on Piazza Navona). If you're still uncomfortable with sitting down for drinks and snacks with others but would like to say hello, we'd encourage you to simply take an early evening stroll in the historic centre and wave or say hello to others from the abundant space of the square. Nothing is stopping us from getting up from the table to safely exchange greetings.

The Great Beauty Pre-Opening! - September 21, 2017

What better way to catch up after the summer than meeting for a drink at a spectacular new location with a breathtaking view? Join us on the roof of Palazzo Pamphilj at the new bar dubbed "La Grande Bellezza" (The Great Beauty, a reference to Paolo Sorrentino's award-winning 2013 film tribute to Rome). Part of the recently opened Eitch Borromini Hotel, the rooftop is accessible from the 6th floor and offers an incredible 360-degree panorama encompassing the iconic Piazza Navona and countless other sights. It truly has no rivals.

The hotel also has a large display of contemporary artwork in the Borromini Art Gallery on the 4th floor -- in addition to more wonderful views from the windows on that floor.
