Charity Fundraiser: Auction and Reception - May 18, 2024

We're going to top off our 2023-2024 club season with a fun fundraising event, with all proceeds going to CCR's charity this season, Differenza Donna! Since 1989 this registered Italian non-profit organization has been helping women affected by violence through information campaigns, interventions, shelters and a dedicated help line, along with medical, psychological and social support.

The modest participation fee will cover basic costs, including refreshments, but we really hope many of you will also get involved with our silent auction to raise funds. Let us know by April 23rd if you also have an appropriate item to be auctioned in a very fun way. Have you received a gorgeous gift that just doesn't fit your home décor? Have fine duplicate items at home? Switched from gold to silver jewellery? Instead of re-gifting or having it take up precious space, let it become someone else's treasure!

If you don't have any items or services to contribute, you can still help this worthy cause by bidding on a special item to take home.

Do you have a small business with a product or service to donate to our silent auction? Join others who have already donated items like a winery excursion, restaurant meals and beauty treatments. You'll contribute to a great cause and have an excellent opportunity for promotion with a friendly, interested crowd.

Thank you to our club sponsor Air Canada Italy for their invaluable contribution to this charity event.

When: Saturday, May 18, 2024
Where: CCR members' private residence, Corso Trieste area; exact address sent to confirmed participants by email.
Time: 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Cost: CCR members €10, guests €15, which includes aperitivo foods, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. We also welcome donations for the auction but let us know by April 23rd. All proceeds will go to this year's charity, Differenza Donna.
RSVP to canadarome@gmail.com by 14 May, 2024, or until full. Advance payment is required. When booking, please let us know whether or not you'll be donating an item for the silent auction so we can prepare a descriptive card and bidding sheet.
More information on our charity, Differenza Donna: see here.

I LOVE ITALY Valentine Cocktail Party - February 12, 2019

Celebrate with us at a very special Valentine Cocktail Party dedicated to our love for Italy. The evening will spotlight the trendsetting efforts of LoveItaly, a visionary nonprofit crowdfunding platform that helps lovers of Italy from around the globe contribute to the restoration of Italian cultural heritage projects.

Take this opportunity to get involved and be a part our collective international community by participating in the “Adopt a Column” campaign for the medieval monastery on the island of Capri. Known to locals as “La Certosa,” the site survived seven centuries of pirates, wars, plagues and monastic suppression before embracing its new role today as the cultural heart of this world famous haven. But now the future of this 14th century monument is threatened and a restoration intervention on its columns is urgently needed.

Throughout the evening a large screen will follow the crowdfunding movement in real time, showing your impact advancing the needle toward the project goal that has a target deadline of March 2019. There is no cost to attend the "I LOVE ITALY" Valentine Cocktail Party featuring live music, appetizers and a cash bar. To participate, guests are requested to make a minimum €10 contribution directly to the Certosa “Adopt a Column” project at this link. Invite your family, colleagues, friends, and neighbors to be a part of history. Come out and celebrate with us starting at  6 p.m. on February 12th! Become Part of Ancient History & Enlighten Future Generations - Please RSVP for the cocktail party at this link .

For those who would like to continue the evening, Westin Excelsior Executive Chef, James Foglieni, proposes an optional dinner menu created exclusively for our guests (€60 per person) wishing to experience the fine dining of the famed Doney Restaurant. Please reserve dinner directly through Lori Hickey at: lorih@hotmail.it).

A DJ will play relaxing background music during the dinner and rousing dance tunes afterwards so that we can trip the light fantastic! We won't forget our tradition of charity fundraising, either, and our raffle has some truly fantastic prizes, including two Air Canada tickets to any destination, fine wines, and more!

This event has been organized with the generous support of Air Canada.

Warm thanks to Casale del Giglio for their contributions.

Thinking Outside the Box: Aperitif & Food Drive - February 15, 2017

CCR is delighted to do another combined event with Free Exchange to benefit our charity Project Rome. This fun-filled aperitif will allow all members and friends to participate in aiding Project Rome by preparing boxes with extremely needed personal items for the homeless and less fortunate people in Rome.

All we ask is that you help to fill shoe boxes with items that CCR will provide (if you have some, you could bring an empty shoe box or two but we'll have some for those who can't find any at home!). Your good spirit and caring nature will do the rest. But if you happen to have some extras of the following items, your contribution is welcome since there is an ongoing need: pasta, rice, legumes (pulses), canned tomatoes (passata), potatoes, olive oil, plastic plates, cups, spoons and serviettes – as well as non-food items such as candles for those living in the dark.

Our effort aims to assist Project Rome and also to promote Canada 150 (the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation) in conjunction with the Canadian Embassy in Rome, and so we hope to collect more than 150 items such as those above!

When: Wednesday, February 15, 2017
Time: 6:30-9 p.m.
Where: Enoteca Q'4RT inside Hotel Oxford, Via Boncompagni 87 (Via Veneto area)
Cost: €10 first drink and aperitif finger foods, €5 for each drink after that.
RSVP: by noon Feb. 15, 2017

CCR Special Visit & Charity Fundraiser: Japanese Institute Garden - May 14, 2016

The Japanese Institute in Rome has a lovely garden that reflects the traditions and symbolism of Japanese landscaping. It was the first garden in Italy designed by a Japanese architect, Ken Nakajima, and comprises all the essential features of a sen’en style garden – a pond, a waterfall, rocks, small islets, a bridge and a stone lamp. During this highly requested tour, we will seek to understand the philosophy behind these beautiful forms.

Contributions from participants will be entirely donated to our charity, Frontier College’s Lieutenant Governor’s Aboriginal Summer Reading Camps.

When: Saturday, May 14, 2016
Time: 10 a.m. start; the guide will not wait for latecomers.
Where: Valle Giulia area; exact meeting details will be sent to confirmed participants.
Cost: to raise funds for the CCR charity, the Aborginal Children’s Summer Reading Camps, we will be collecting €10 from CCR members and €15 from non-members; maximum 15 people.
RSVP with your full name to canadarome@gmail.com ATTN Diana.
