CCR Book Club - April 23, 2015

In April our adventures in reading will lead us to ponder the legal and moral dilemmas of "The Postmistress" by Sarah Blake. The New York Times review says the author "has coaxed forth a book that hits hard and pushes buttons expertly... galvanizing social issues in the service of a well-wrought tear-jerker," and that the novel is "crammed with talking points," which is precisely what we love in the CCR Book Club!

When: Thursday, April 23, 2015
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Via Giulia area -- exact address sent to confirmed participants by email.
Potluck Dinner: Please RSVP letting Nicoletta know what dish you will be preparing for 6 people.

CCR Book Club - March 26, 2015

The March meeting will focus on Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures by Vincent Lam, a doctor whose book has been made into a TV series.

This book's presentation states that, "in their scalpel-sharp prose and unflinching gaze, the stories in Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures introduce a powerful new voice in Canadian fiction... Lam holds in delicate and skillful tension black humour, investigations of both common and extraordinary moral dilemmas, and a sometimes shockingly realistic and matter-of-fact portrait of today's medical profession... He brings to vivid and convincing life the disparate but interdependent worlds of school and home, heartbreaking young love and life-altering fear in stories that introduce us to Fitz, Ming, Chen, and Sri, young medical school students and doctors in Toronto."

When: Thursday, March 26, 2015
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Piazza Vittorio area -- exact address sent to confirmed participants by email.
Potluck Dinner: Please RSVP letting Nicoletta know what dish you will be preparing for 6 people.
